Super Bowl Sunday Surf City Marathon was this past weekend and it was the most perfect running weather overcast and cool. I really feel sorry for the peeps in the
snowier part of the country. They seem to not get any relief
lately storm after storm I hear. Here I am in So Cal enjoying sunshine and 70's with race day being overcast and mid 60's. I really didn't have any goals for this race it was just for fun. My training has been derailed over the past few months so I was just going out for some fun with a 9000 other people and a couple of really good friends. The race started and I quickly found one of my closest and morning running buddy Liz. We ran for a few miles and I had to walk an aid station due to aspirating the cup of water and off she went out of sight. No big deal I knew she wanted to go under 4 hours and I was out for a 4:20 time that day. Well about mile 10 I fell. Not only did I fall but I tripped over a road bump/reflector thing. I totally was caught off guard and I was
sooooo busy trying to get a
sharkie out of the damn
Dixie cup in my hand that I
drifted over to the right and than onto the asphalt I went. Bloody knee and
luckily I was
wearing gloves still because it was a bit chilly my hands didn't become hamburger!! Thank you baby
Jesus. Anyways I got up just as fast as I fell down and make a split second
assessment and off I went to continue. the whole time I was thinking maybe I should stop but I felt
ok so I pressed on and just slowed my pace to a +10 min/mile and by mile 12 felt a twinge and mile 18 it was worse so I walk ran the rest of the marathon and said F@#$ it I'm probably already injured so let's just finish this damn thing. SO walk/run and finish 4:37 . OK, just a bit sore so no biggie. Medical scrubbed my knee to get rid of the asphalt and
slapped a
band-aid on and home I went. Mark had a Supper Bowl party planned so not to
disappoint I iced my ankle and knee and rested until guests arrived and than put on my party face and that's that. Over night my ankle got worse and by the morning I knew I was in trouble.
Soooo, of to Roger I went and came home with one of these:
DSW sells these at half price!!
You can totally see the ouchy on my knee..... MRI tomorrow and I see Roger on Friday for a final assessment and find out how long I'm off the ankle and when I can get on the bike and swim. So, for know It's upper body and core work for me.
